Andrea Costanzo Martini presents a fast-paced, enjoyable body duel in SCARABEO, Angles and the Void.
Scarabeo is the Italian word for scarab, a beetle used by ancient Egyptians as a symbol of the heavenly cycle of rebirth. Scarabeo is also the Italian translation for Scrabble, a board game in which letters are used several times to form different words with different meanings. The work is based on the two poles-extreme physicality versus strict movement codes.
Starting from the idea of treating their bodies only as a physical object, the two performers let themselves be dragged away by one to the next transformation. A humorous duet that offers itself wonderfully to approach contemporary dance.
