DANIEL MATOS
Choreographer, performer and visual artist.
Choreographer, performer and visual artist. He develops his work through multidisciplinary practices, always focusing on the body as a field of biographical, physical and emotional research, questioning and redesigning the idea of limits. His creations always seek to find a hybrid way of working, assuming the present as a political place of transgression, poetry, ritual and affection. His work has been shown in Portugal, Germany, Hong Kong, Australia, India, Indonesia, Brazil, France, Italy and Spain.
He is an artistic collaborator, performer and rehearsal assistant for the duo Ana Borralho & João Galante, Angélica Liddell, Romeo Castellucci, Davis Freeman, Barbara Griggi, Luís Marrafa, André Uerba, Nuno Nolasco, Amélia Bentes and others. Has published visual material in the 6th edition of Merge Magazine and in the book "The Art of Building Citizenship: artistic practices", curated by Alix Sarrouy and NOVA FCSH.
In 2024 he collaborated with the videographer João Catarino, presenting a video-art at 19:8 Gallery / 180 Channel in Porto.
In 2019, together with Joana Flor Duarte, he founded CAMA a.c. - a structure for the creation, production and research of performing arts - where she is resident artist and artistic director. He is currently co-programming and co-curating the 12th edition of the Verão Azul International Contemporary Arts Festival, invited by the artistic directors Ana Borralho & João Galante, and is the co-artistic director and programmer of PEDRA DURA - Algarve Dance Festival.
In 2023 he started CenDDA – Algarve Documentation Center, where he coordinates the creation of a performing arts archive and library. His creation - VÄRA - was nominated for best choreography of 2023 by the Portuguese Society of Authors.
