VIKTOR ČERNICKÝ
Contemporary dance/ circus /performance
Viktor Černický (Slovak / Czech-based) creates works that straddle the fine line between dance, performance, circus, and physical theater. He heads the long-term research project The Body as Object / The Object as Body, which looks at the dynamics of relationships between the object and the subjective individuality of the performer.
His first solo performance PAROLAPOLEA earned him nominations in categories Dancer of the Year and Dance Performance of the Year at the 2017 Czech Dance Platform, and was presented with a special award in the form of participation at the Choreographic Research Week at the B-Motion Festival in Bassano del Grappa.
His latest solo piece PLI, presented after 2 years of work in November 2018, received the Audience Award and Total Award of Czech Dance Platform 2019. Viktor has received a nomination for concept and choreography in Dance and Movement Theatre category at Theatre News Award 2019.
In 2020 Viktor Černický and PLI also find their place among the Aerowaves Twenty20 selection. For 2020-2021 the performance becomes a part of Shape It! - a Creative Europe project aimed at presenting dance works to the young audiences.
Alongside his own work, he has also collaborated and performed with Jaro Viňarský, Dominique Boivin, Daniel Gulko and Compagnie Mossoux-Bonté, among others. Since 2019 Viktor has also become an associate teacher at DAMU Prague (CZ).
Currently, he has been working on a new creation Prima: A collective autoportrait (working title) in which the public will be engaged instead of professional performers. The piece, with premiere planned for 2021 is now looking for potential partners for residencies, public meetings, workshops and presentations.
